Dr. Nathaniel “Nate” Mohatt is a Program Manager at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), where he leads the largest-ever federal investment in psychedelic medicine research. He is one of the nations leading voices in psychedelic medicines, neuromodulation for behavioral health, suicide prevention, and sleep science. Since joining ARPA-H in 2025, Dr. Mohatt has built and manages a portfolio of approximately $350 million in high-risk, high-reward research advancing beyond-state-of-the-art approaches to mental and behavioral health. He oversees EVIDENT (Evidence-Based Validation & Innovation for Rapid Therapeutics in Behavioral Health), which is developing objective, FDA-ready measures of mental health and wellbeing to accelerate innovative behavioral health treatments such as psychedelic medicines, and the newly announced Restorative and health-Enhancing Sleep Time (REST) program, which seeks to develop consumer and home-based technologies to measure and control how sleep can improve health to prevent and treat mental illness and chronic disease. Prior to joining ARPA-H, he held leadership and research roles at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Department of Veterans Affairs, Yale University, and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. His work spans neuroscience, behavioral health, suicide prevention, and the translation of emerging science into proactive health solutions.
